Etude Wines

Global Winner - Sustainable Wine Tourism Practices - San Francisco | Napa Valley

Etude was founded on the philosophy that winemaking begins in the vineyard long before the harvest and that superior grape growing diminishes the need for intervention by the winemaker, resulting in authentic varietal expression. Visit them and enjoy their critically acclaimed wines including their limited production single vineyard Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Etude serves as a model for sustainable viticulture and wine production. The vision for Grace Benoist Ranch encompassed a long-term concept of sustainability that included sensitivity to the environment, minimal impact on neighbors and the community and economic feasibility to implement and maintain the program.

Through careful planning and thoughtful design, the Etude team has continually worked to protect our land, operate in a sustainable, forward-thinking fashion and craft world-class wines with minimal intervention by the winemaker, revealing only the essence of the vineyard. Mindful of their roles as stewards of this special property, Etude strictly adheres to sustainable agricultural practices that enable them to farm in concert with the surrounding environment.

In the development of the vineyards at Grace Benoist Ranch, native Oak and Bay trees were retained to protect nearby waterways. Twelve miles of wildlife corridors were incorporated in the planning of the vineyard planting to preserve riparian habitats and the natural migration of wildlife, affording safe passageways through the vineyards. Naturally occurring wetlands have been protected, creeks have been restored and an erosion control plan has been implemented to protect nearby waterways.

At the winery, solar panels supply about a third of Etude’s energy needs, recycled water is used for landscape irrigation and employees manage a composting and recycling program which diverts a large percentage of waste away from landfills. The Etude team also takes pride in their employee cultivated garden, with a portion of the produce donated to the Napa Food Bank.

Etude is certified Napa Green, implements Fish Friendly Farming and adheres to the Code of Sustainable Winegrowing.

Always looking towards the future, the Etude winemaking team strives for the best and most responsible practices in their vineyard and is constantly seeking new approaches toward excellence and sustainability.
