The Hess Collection

Global Winner - Art and Culture - San Francisco | Napa Valley

Donald Hess established a Mount Veeder vineyard in 1978, recognizing the potential for great winegrowing.  The Hess Collection winery is a historic site in a native stone building hewn by masons in 1903. The winery is now joined by The Hess Art Collection, a world-class showcase of contemporary art. Donald Hess is recognized as one of the top collectors of contemporary art, and his passion is shared without charge for visitors to The Hess Art Museum at The Hess Collection Winery.  Here are such masters as Francis Bacon, Robert Motherwell and Andy Goldsworthy, among many others.  Hess is intrigued with contemporary art and its experimental, and often provocative edge, as well as its ability to mirror the cultural values of its time.
