The Chapel Hill Winery tourism experience is one that is about so much more than wine - it’s about history, place, community and most importantly, making memories and building relationships.

Chapel Hill Winery Cellar Door is located 10 minutes drive north of the McLaren Vale township, approximately 45 minutes from the Adelaide CBD. Tastings are available 7 days 11am-5pm.

Winter, and in particular the holiday season, has its own charms. The cold, and sometimes bad weather, beckons to be inside and warm, but it’s also a perfect opportunity to stroll, to enjoy excellent accommodations, to taste Portuguese cuisine and admire the beautiful landscapes. This is what led us to a weekend getaway, to visit Ponte de Lima, and to experience an excellent stay.

The Napa River Inn has been named one of America’s Dozen Distinctive Destinations by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and is a Forbes Four Star hotel. This locally owned and operated inn has 66 rooms spread between three diverse buildings along the waterfront. The rooms offer the historical charms of the past and blend with the modern-day amenities of today. It’s no surprise that the Inn won a 2018 ‘Best Of Wine Tourism’ award for Accommodation from the Great Wine Capitals Global Network.

In the Domhof in Guntersblum in Rheinhessen they serve crisp Riesling and heavenly food among lots of historic tales on the side. In 2010 they won their first Best of Wine Tourism Award for that, now they topped it with the Best of Wine Tourism Award 2018 for accommodation. "There were just not enough beds for our guests", Chris says, thus, in 2016 they built on the site of the old bottle barn a small hotel which mimics the architecture of the neighbouring houses.

Perfectly placed just half an hour from the city of Bordeaux, yet in the heart of the vineyards of Pessac Léognan, Château Le Pape is an ideal central base from which to discover the Bordeaux vineyards.

The winery was recently given a ‘Best Of Wine Tourism’ award for sustainability by the Great Wine Capitals Global Network.

Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, mentioned in records as far back as 1725, is an ancient property in the heart of the Douro Valley. Behind the awards that recognize the excellence of its wines there is a basis of the utmost respect and policies of preservation of the Douro region. Therefore, it was no big surprise that it won the Sustainable Wine Practices Award, given by the Great Wine Capitals Network.

Glass has been essential to the preservation of wine over many centuries and continues to sustain the industry today. Thus it is quite fitting that last year’s Great Wine Capital’s ‘Best Of Wine Tourism’ Award winner in Sustainability in Mendoza was Verallia, one of the world’s largest glass bottle producers.

The guests are met at the mill's weir, bench, chair and flowers are carefully and romantically arranged underneath the small roof. A path winds down to the entrance of the former flour mill, a small door within allows the view into the grinding station. "You could bring the mill back to work, that wouldn't even be difficult", Eva Eppard says. The young woman runs one of the best restaurants of the region in the old mill. "Eppard in the 100 Guldennmühle" sets a unique pace in terms of regional cooking and sustainability – and won her a  ‘Best Of Wine Tourism’ award from the Great Wine Capitals for sustainability in 2017.
