Quinta do Monte Travesso, environmentally friendly!

Quinta do Monte Travesso is a Douro estate, located in Tabuaço, in the sub-region of Cima-Corgo, close to Aldeia Vinhateira de Barcos.

It is a family-owned estate that is dedicated to the production of wines and olive oil with its own brand, as well as wine tourism.

For five generations that Quinta do Monte Travesso belongs to the Napóles de Carvalho family, since the founder of Casa do Douro, the great-great-great-grandfather of the current owners, offered this beautiful quinta to his daughter as a wedding gift. From the get-go, some of the current vineyards started to be planted and began making wine at the same warehouses where, today, the grapes of Monte Travesso are still converted into wine. Lately, unique vines varieties per plot were planted and new technologies were introduced, namely the possibility of controlling the fermentation temperature in hundred-year-old lagares (wine press).

It recently won the "Best of Wine Tourism 2019" award in the category of Sustainable Wine Tourism Practices (its viticulture is environmentally friendly, promotes the use of bicycles for free, has a porch fully equipped for charging electric vehicles and has a partnership with an operator that transports tourists exclusively on Tesla electric vehicles).

Visitors to this beautiful estate house, set in a unique region in the world, can also enjoy three different types of tastings (wine and olive oil), picnics, rides on a typical Douro van (a Bedford from 1976 dubbed "Vaidosa" [Vain]), a guided tour to the wine cellar and vineyards and visit to the Casa da Família [Family House] (a living museum full of stories to tell, since 1896).

At this Quinta, one feels a genuine Douro in which tradition is still what it was!
