Ricardo and José Miguel Arambarri of the Vintae group are well known in the Rioja region for their novel approach to wine marketing. So it was no surprise that they were the driving force behind Wine Fandango. This wine, tapas and cocktail bar and restaurant has quickly become one of Logroño’s favorite watering holes.
The Arambarri brothers partnered with chef Aitor Esnal and Beatriz Martínez, whose innovative cuisine was already well known at their restaurant Marinée. Esnal’s menu combines tradition, innovation and seasonal produce. His latest menu features dishes such as a quinoa and mirin boshi salad with locally produced peppers and guacamole, a contest between soba noodles and Italian pasta, boletus mushroom panna cotta, deboned veal trotters ‘glasé’ with crispy onions and a wild dessert that Esnal calls “Mango, mango, mango”.
Visitors to Wine Fandango can listen to live music while enjoying a drink on the multilevel outdoor porch, stand at the bar, sit at tables near the bar or in the restaurant. The bar and restaurant areas are separated by floor-to-ceiling dividers featuring popular Rioja wine brands.
Normally the wine selection at local bars is skewed toward Rioja, but at Wine Fandango wines from all over Spain are served by the glass or bottle, with the list changing all the time. An interesting feature is a showcase where customers can see the bottles on offer.
Because of this innovative approach to food, wine and entertainment, Wine Fandango received a special jury award by Bilbao-Rioja at its 2017 ‘Best Of Wine Tourism award ceremony.
