Côtes

The Côtes de Bordeaux are scattered across the entire Gironde department and include Premières Côtes de Bordeaux, Côtes de Bourg, Premières Côtes de Blaye, Graves de Vayres, Côtes de Castillon and Côtes de Francs.

Climate / Geography

The  Côtes  vineyards  are spread across the entire Bordeaux area. There is not  a  unique  area  but  several  lands along the right banks of Garonne, Dordogne  and  Gironde.  Only exception is the Graves de Vayres which is on the  left  bank  of  the  Dordogne.  Notwithstanding this they have certain similarities  in  their growing conditions: clay-limestone soils at the top of  the hillsides, soil with more clay on the lower slopes, with occasional patches  of  gravel.  All  of  them  are  also well exposed to the south or south-west.  Certain  "terroir" produce also dry, fruity and aromatic white wines.

Types of Wine / Grapes

The  main  grapes  used  for  the  Côtes wines are cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon, malbec, merlot, petit verdot and carmenère.
