Cycling along the Douro Valley

Cycling between the mountains
and the sea

For individuals or groups, we are coming up with an innovative approach for cycling and outdoor lovers. We propose custom-made and ready-made itineraries suited to different interests and skills, from recreational beginner level. The Alto Minho biking holiday will give you an almost surrealistic “change of scenery” experience. Starting high in the mountains area, you will literally cycle down to the Atlantic Ocean stretching before you as far as you can see. This land is also blessed by the Minho, Lima and Douro rivers, each of which will accompany you at one stage or another of your ride. This is a proud land, proud of its maritime history and of the remains of the fortifications that helped keep the Spanish well within their borders. It is the land of fine mountain cuisine and, along the cost, a wealth of fish and seafood dishes, best enjoyed with a glass of Vinho Verde. Best of all, it is a biking journey that will put you in touch with some of the nicest Europeans. Cycle across the ancient Roman bridge at Ponte de Lima, famous for its beauty and its importance to medieval pilgrims as they made their way from Porto to Santiago de Compostela. Enjoy biking through the North of Portugal at its most authentic.   For individuals or groups, we are coming up with an innovative approach for cycling and outdoor lovers. We propose custom-made and ready-made itineraries suited to different interests and skills, from recreational beginner level. Your biking holiday in the Douro will acquaint you with fascinating, magical natural surroundings, the best cuisine and some of the world’s finest wines including, of course, Port Wine for which the region is famous. Beginning in the Douro River Canyon and its more than 200 metres-high cliffs in the eastern part of the region, you will cycle across the highland plateau of the International Douro Nature Reserve, with its over 170 bird species, amongst which the Egyptian vulture. Leisurely follow former railway tracks through vast forests, almond groves and typical agricultural landscapes. Throughout your journey, the River Douro will envelop you with its magic, whether you are enjoying a breath-taking view from on high, cycling alongside it, or even riding on a boat. The unique terraced vineyards, so typical of the region that is listed as a Unesco World Heritage Property, are a delight to the eye.
