Rheinhessen – an experience for everyone

To enable as many guests as possible to experience the nuances of taste of our winegrowers' excellent products, numerous wineries and vinotheques offer barrier-free wine experiences.

The wine-growing areas of Rheinhessen impress with their diverse terroirs, steep vineyard slopes and many hours of sunshine. They define the incomparable character of the wines. To enable as many guests as possible to experience the nuances of taste of our winegrowers’ excellent products, numerous wineries and vinotheques offer barrier-free wine experiences.

You can choose between wine experiences such as wine tastings, cellar tours or wine sales. But there is also a variety of offers in the categories of accommodation, gastronomy and culture. To enable people with limited mobility to participate equally in tourist experiences, there are numerous barrier-free options in public spaces. Barrier-free means of transport, the condition of public spaces such as roads or (hiking) trails, etc. also contribute to the overall experience. We show you where you can taste a glass or two carefree.

Carefree wine tasting

In Wasem’s Kloster Engelthal in Ingelheim, modern architecture and historic building structure come together in perfect harmony. The listed ensemble of the former Cistercian monastery from 1290 with a modern vinotheque, combined with the sophisticated gastronomy concept, offers an experience for all senses. Wasem’s has been certified for its architecture and related accessibility.

Arrive and feel comfortable

The SCHLAFGUT Domhof opened in 2016 at the opposite of the winery. For this purpose, the family converted a former bottle warehouse into an oasis of well-being with 12 stylishly modern double rooms, including one of which is barrier-free. Here, classic furnishings and rural charm combine with a pleasant feel-good atmosphere. The hotel was awarded three stars superior by DeHoGa as well as the seal of quality “tested accessibility”.

Low-barrier experience tours

The offers are as diverse as the facets of Rheinhessen. To ensure that people with limited mobility can also discover the diversity of the region, the culture and wine ambassadors offer “barrier-free” guided tours and events.

Our tip: Explore Sulzheim in a very special way with the culture and wine ambassador Angelika Friedrich. This tour deliberately appeals to all senses: See different details, hear different sounds, feel ancient shells and stones, smell different scents and of course taste the Rheinhessen wine.
