San Francisco and Napa Valley play host to a number of grand traditions this holiday season: tree lightings, festive rides, and holiday shows, to name a few. Check out some of our favorite holiday happenings around the city and valley, and come celebrate the season!
The Great Dickens Christmas Fair
Enter the world of Charles Dickens' Victorian London on a magical Christmas Eve and discover the heart of the holidays. Resounding laughter, mirth and merriment abound. Join the dance, mingle with over 800 lively performers, and revel in hearty food and drink for five weekends, Nov. 17 - Dec. 23, 2018, at San Francisco's historic Cow Palace.
The Napa Valley Wine Train
Hop on the Santa Train, an interactive musical adventure for the entire family. The Santa Train runs Nov. 19 through Dec. 28, 2018 from 5:30 – 7 p.m. and 7:15 – 9:15 p.m. (trains do not run on Dec. 24 or 25, 2018). Guests will experience games, sing-alongs, and a fun cast of holiday-inspired characters, all while enjoying hot cocoa and freshly baked cookies. For the third consecutive year, the Napa Valley Wine Train has partnered with the Ticket to Dream Foundation to invite hundreds of Northern California foster children aboard the Santa Train free of charge.
PIER 39 Nightly Tree Lighting
From Nov. 21, 2018 to Jan. 1, 2019, San Francisco's PIER 39 has a 60-foot tree that will come to life at the top of each hour from 5 p.m. - 10 p.m. Synchronized to holiday music, the tree will become a kaleidoscope of swirling color, adorned with specialty lights and ornaments. These dazzling tree lighting moments will take center stage throughout the season.
Napa Valley Wine Trolley’s Holiday Light Tours
Returning to Downtown Napa for three weekends in December 2018. The Holiday Light Tours are Friday through Sunday, Dec. 7, 8, and 9; Dec 14, 15, and 16; as well as Friday and Saturday, Dec. 21 and 22, 2018 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The vintage cable car departs from Oxbow Public Market and takes guests through historic Downtown Napa and its Victorian neighborhoods.

San Francisco's major theaters will have plenty of top-notch productions to see this holiday season. The Curran welcomes the national tour of Tony Award-winning sensation Dear Evan Hansen, Dec. 5-30, 2018. SHN will have both its houses full with A Bronx Tale at the Golden Gate Theater (Nov. 27-Dec. 23) and Bat Out of Hell at the Orpheum (Dec.4-23). And we couldn't forget A.C.T.'s annual staging of their beloved adaptation of A Christmas Carol, Dec. 6-29, 2018.
The Twelve Days of Christmas at The Restaurant at Meadowood
This holiday season marks the tenth anniversary of The Twelve Days of Christmas at The Restaurant at Meadowood. Hosted by Chef Christopher Kostow and Director Nathaniel Dorn, the twelve-day charitable celebration Dec. 7 through Dec. 22, 2018 invites influential chefs from around the world to collaborate with Chef Kostow and the culinary team, sourcing and utilizing products from in and around the Napa Valley. This year’s dinner series will benefit the Saint Helena Preschool for All, Inc., a local non-profit that provides scholarships to children. The Restaurant at Meadowood will donate $2,000 in honor of each participating guest chef, plus ten percent of every dinner ticket sold.
