The Rioja wine district has more than 600 wineries, and there is fierce competition to attract visitors. Several wineries have sought to gain an edge by including among their services the possibility to dine in the winery to enjoy Rioja’s delicious cuisine, paired with wines from the cellars.
Among the most popular winery restaurants in Rioja are:
The Marqués de Riscal City of Wine
Riscal's City of Wine has everything for the discerning wine tourist. You can take a guided tour of one of Rioja’s iconic wineries, founded in 1860, pamper your body and soul at the Caudalie Vinothérapie spa, rest at the Frank Gehry-designed Hotel Marqués de Riscal and enjoy first-class dining at one of two restaurants in the hotel. Riojan chef Francis Paniego, whose restaurant in Ezcaray has two Michelin stars, supervises both restaurants at Marqués de Riscal.
The 1-Michelin-starred gastronomic restaurant offers a blend of traditional northern Spanish and avant-garde creations, highlighted by two tasting menus: 21 Ideas and 14 Ideas. An à la carte menu is also available.
The 1860 Tradition Restaurant offers a more relaxed atmosphere, specializing in the five-course Riscal Menu.
The cellar offers the whole range of Marqués de Riscal wines as well as a selection of wines from all over the world.

Bodegas David Moreno
Tourists who visit the Monasteries of Suso and Yuso, world heritage sites in the southeast corner of La Rioja, will enjoy a stop at Bodegas David Moreno in the nearby village of Badarán. Moreno left his job as an engineer at a large automobile factory near Barcelona to return to his home town and pursue his dream of making wine. This idea has blossomed into a winery that specializes in a wide range of experiences for wine tourists as well as a popular restaurant.
The Gonzalo de Berceo restaurant offers two tasting menus that include a guided tour of the winery and discounted prices for wine purchases.
David Moreno can prepare a picnic basket for two or three people so that they can eat outside on the grounds of the winery.
A special feature is the possibility of hearing David himself sing a spontaneous medley of ‘jotas’, typical folk songs from the Ebro river valley.
