Porto’s Airport - Francisco Sá Carneiro - will end 2014 with a new passenger record. After overpassing 6 million passengers in 2011, it expects to reach, three years later, seven million passengers.
The number was announced by the airport’s director Fernando Vieira, at the conference “Tourism 2020”, in Alfandega do Porto. "Until September, we had 5,3 million passengers, which represents an increase of 8,3%, and a load factor of 81%, which also represents an increase of 1,2 ".
With 70 routes operated by 18 regular companies, Porto’s airport has been keeping an annual growth rate of 9%, much above the average of European airports. According to Fernando Vieira, 95% of the airport’s routes fly to Europe. "We would like to attract long course routes and to establish new connections with new interesting markets”. Only 1% of our routes go to the African continent, 2% to North America and 2% to South America.
