On 18 September 1908 was signed the Law Chart demarcating the Vinhos Verdes Region. It completes 106 years in 2014 – a long history with a very promising future.

To celebrate the date there will be a dinner taking place on 19:00, as well as a ceremony of delivery of the awards for the Vinhos Verdes & Gastronomy 2014 Competition.

The “Rali Vinho do Porto” for classic cars will be departing from Porto – in front of the building of Alfândega do Porto, around 15:00 on 19 September, towards the Douro Wine Region.

The Vinhos Verdes region, celebrating its 106th anniversary on 18 September, expects a very favorable harvest in 2014.

To the oenologist António Cerdeira, “the climate conditions in August and September are, at this stage, determining factors to the distinctive profile of the Vinhos Verdes in 2014. We expect the harvest to start on mid-September, revealing a good balance between the aroma intensity, acidity and alcohol, being desirable that the final maturation period is slow and progressive, in order to get elegant wines.”

The first edition of the Port Wine Day will happen on 10 September, promoted by the Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e do Porto, thus celebrating the day on which the world’s oldest demarcated and regulated wine region – Alto Douro Vinhateiro - was created, back in 1756.
