Lausanne, the Olympic capital and the center of the vineyards of the Swiss canton of Vaud, is the newest member of the Great Wine Capitals Global Network. Lausanne joins Adelaide / South Australia, Bilbao / Rioja, Bordeaux, Mainz / Rheinhessen, Mendoza, Porto, San Francisco / Napa Valley, Valparaiso / Casablanca Valley and Verona.

 This year, sparklingwines from around the world are guests of honour at the competition. At the Bordeaux Palais des Congrès, on the 20st and 21nd April 2018, more than 800 tasters will gather to taste and blind judge a large number of wines, with a view to awarding medals to the best of them, and attributing 11 Special Prizes.

The renowned Michelin Guide of France put Casa Vigil among its recommended

The important Michelin Guide of gastronomy and travel, of France recommended on this end of the year Casa Vigil, the restaurant of Chachingo, Maipú, where the famous winemaker Alejandro Vigil produces El Enemigo. The restaurant had already been distinguished this year as the best restaurant in the winery of Argentina in the Great World Capitals Best Of contest.

The winners of the first edition of the contest “Best of Wine Tourism” were awarded in Verona. 

Porto is the third destination in the annual “World's Best Places to Visit. Ranking 2017” published by U.S. News Today. The only Portuguese city on the list comes after Rome and Sydney. Behind it are Paris, London, Machu Picchu, the Grand Canyon, Phuket and more places you can not miss.

Bilbao consolidates its reputation as a top food destination

Over one thousand experts on an international jury made up of food writers, chefs, and experts in gastronomy honored two Bilbao-area restaurants, Asador Etxebarri and Azurmendi on the 2017 edition of ‘The World’s 50 Best’ list, that recognizes the world’s best restaurants, at an awards ceremony at the Melbourne (Australia) Food and Wine Festival.

Asador Extebarri took sixth place while Azurmendi was number 38.

The dates for the 6th Douro Superior Wine Festival are confirmed: it will take place from 19 to 21 May (Friday to Sunday). The venue will be the same, EXPOCÔA - Exhibition Centre of Vila Nova de Foz Côa. The programme of the event is not yet closed but a live concert (on Saturday night), the conference, the Douro Superior wines contest and special wine tastings will be held again.

It’s one of the country's main wine hotel and has been recognized by the spanish and british newspapers, El Mundo and The Telegraph, as one of the best destinations for a quiet and exclusive wine tourism experience.

From November 8 through 12, the Network’s Annual General Meeting will take place in Logroño (La Rioja) and Bilbao featuring a range of activities related to the world of wine.
