The Napa Valley Wineries and Vineyards

The Napa Valley has been long renowned for its scenic beauty and world-class wines. The valley is a popular visit for travellers from around the world as well as a weekend retreat for San Francisco residents. California's history of fine winemaking took root in Napa Valley over a hundred years ago. Now there are well over two hundred wineries maintaining that tradition.

Here is a small sample:

St. Supery Vineyards & Winery

Two vineyards - one in the heart of Napa Valley's Cabernet country, the other in a serene corner of the Valley - gave rise to the divine wines of St. Supéry, most notably, award-winning Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc. Chardonnay, Merlot, Red and White Meritage wines and a handful of limited-edition varietals round out the offering. Adding diversity to the range of fine wines is the inclusion of the third vineyard, Hardester Ranch, since 1999.

The winery estate, situated in Rutherford, welcomes visitors with a tour of the modern winemaking facility or a visit to the historic landmark 1880 Victorian Atkinson House (now a living museum). Yet perhaps the biggest attraction is the uniquely informative and engaging St. Supéry Wine Discovery Center

Regusci Winery

Built in 1878, Regusci Winery's handsome hand-cut stone façade, with its graceful arched windows and two-foot thick walls, is crafted entirely from lava stone. All three stories of the building were efficiently designed for wine production, resulting in a 275,000-gallon capacity (115,500 cases). The top floor was used for crushing. Juice was then gravity fed to the second floor for settling and fermentation, and finally to the bottom floor for barrel storage and aging. Today, the bottom floor is used for the storage and aging of Regusci Winery's small production of estate wines.

Regusci Winery re-opened its doors in June of 1998 showcasing its estate wines - Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel, and Chardonnay. Regusci Winery is open, by appointment only, for tours and tastings

Pine Ridge Winery

A silhouette of pine trees on a steep hillside in the Stags Leap District of Napa Valley welcomes you to Pine Ridge Winery, founded in 1978 by the Andrus Family. Pine Ridge has been at the forefront of innovative farming practices devised to intensify flavours of the fruit and exalt the distinctive attributes of the various Napa Valley regions where the estate vineyards are located.

Tours are highlighted by a visit to the dramatic caves, one hundred feet underground, the result of excavation into one half mile of volcanic rock hillside. Here guests sample future releases directly from a selection of the over 4,600 French oak barrels housed within. www.pineridgewinery.com
