Considered by many to be “THE MOST BEAUTIFUL RACE IN THE WORLD” the 12th Douro Valley half marathon is set for May 28. “Running along the banks of the Douro River, this fascinating race is set in the heart of the Douro, the oldest appellation, or legally protected wine-growing region in the world, a world heritage.”

“In 2016 there were 30,000 participants from 30 countries, and this event is not just about running; the Douro will welcome the participants with a wide variety of activities, giving the thousands of participants from all around the world the opportunity to enjoy to the fullest the unequalled beauty of this region”.

This is a unique opportunity to add the pleasure of experiencing the Douro Valley to the pleasure of running. Here, visitors will have the opportunity of spending some relaxing days at estates that produce the Douro and Port wines and benefitting from some of the best wine-tourism programmes the Douro has to offer.

They will have the opportunity to taste the wines of the region (both red and whites) and get to know the autochthonous varieties of the Douro: the reds—Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz (Aragonez), Tinta Barroca and Tinto Cão; and the whites—Malvasia (Malmsey) Fina, Viosinho, Gouveio and Rabigato.

As for Port Wine, this will be an opportunity to learn more about the most exclusive wine in the world, made here in the Douro, the unique characteristics of which set it apart from all the others.

But the experiences in the Douro region are not limited to the wines. The cuisine of the region is one of the richest of Portugal and all who visit the Douro must try young goat (Kid), posta Mirandesa, wild boar, partridge, and the feijoada (bean stew), among others.

“Running in the Douro Valley is much more than pounding the asphalt; it is feeling the pure emotion that conquers the heart step by step.”

Last day for entries: May 22.

The Monverde Wine Experience Hotel, hidden in the golden vineyards of the Green Wine Region, was the regional winner of the “Accommodation” category of the Best of Wine Tourism 2017 awards. Opened less than two years ago it has quickly become a worldwide reference in Wine Tourism.

It’s one of the country's main wine hotel and has been recognized by the spanish and british newspapers, El Mundo and The Telegraph, as one of the best destinations for a quiet and exclusive wine tourism experience.

The Casa do Rio, located on the grounds of Quinta do Orgal overlooking the upper Douro Valley, seems to be at one with the surrounding hillside.  Here, visitors can experience the tranquil beauty of the Douro.  It's no wonder that it was a 2017 winner of a Best Of Wine Tourism award for Sustainable Wine Tourism Practices!

On November 10th, Porto’s Sao Bento da Vitoria Monastery was the scene of the 2017 international ‘Best Of Wine Tourism’ awards ceremony sponsored by the Great Wine Capitals Global Network. The ceremony took place during the gala dinner that marked the end of the Network’s annual general meeting.

The official ceremony was held on November 10th, at the Gala Dinner that closed the Great Wine Capitals Annual General Meeting, that Porto hosted this year, under the theme “Wine & Nature”.

Porto is hosting the Great Wine Capitals General Assembly from 6 to 11 November 2016 under the thematic of "Wine & Nature"
The varied program is open to both professionals and consumers interested in wine and wine tourism.

The agenda of the Sunset Wine Parties at The Yeatman ends on 29 September. The wine hotel is preparing a big party to say goodbye to the summer, with the best Portuguese wines, delicacies and music.

At a time when the new grapes are gathered, the last Sunset Wine Party will have the participation of 22 domestic producers, including João Portugal Ramos, Herdade do Mouchão, Quinta do Crasto, Quinta do Pessegueiro and Ramos Pinto. In total, will be about 50 wines in the competition, from different regions and profiles.

The Chef Ricardo Costa will also prepare a wide selection of delicacies and hot and cold dishes. As usual, guests are greeted by a bar serving Oysters from Aveiro, which will only be open at that moment. The usual cheese and smoked sausage boards, are joined with new specialties such as Sopa de Peixes da Lota and Ceviche de Lírio. And because we are talking of fish, the busiest bar will be back again, Sushi, from the Matsuri restaurant of Aveiro.

The backdrop is also appealing to the celebration. The Douro River lives up to its name, covered up with a golden color and the city's waterfront will have a unique lighting. As the sun sets on the horizon, the summer also hides at sea, moving to other places.

The Sunset Wine Parties begins at 7pm and ends at 1am The entrance fee is 65€ per person, and for groups of 8 people or more, the fee will be 60€ per person. Booking is required and can be made online by The Yeatman website.
