End of a sunny and hot summer afternoon in Douro. In that day I had the pleasure to visit a friend. More than a friend, a wine producer from a House in Douro that is constantly giving us wines with superior quality. This time he left me breathless when he took me the top of the Quinta do Pôpa and we look down to Rio Douro.

As long as I can remember I have wanted to go to Valparaiso. To start with it had nothing to do with wine. There is a song about Valparaiso, written by my favourite Swedish poet. He travelled a lot in South America as a young sailor in the 1920s. I have known this song all my life. For me it incarnated the adventure of South America.

We flick the calendar page over to the month of March, harvest time rolls around in Marlborough, and a unique atmosphere encompasses the region.

Cellar hands gather from all over the world, thriving on the fact they are part of this buzz. Together they form a piece of the puzzle producing some of the best Sauvignon Blanc in the world, and more recently, notably Pinot Noir.
