Otto Schätzel has been a committed and highly valued contributor to the Great Wine Capitals Global Network since Mainz | Rheinhessen joined the Network in 2008. Drawing on his extensive experience in the wine sector, he brought to the Network an in-depth understanding of viticulture, wine tourism and regional development, while actively fostering the exchange of ideas and best practices between wine regions. For many years, Otto represented Mainz | Rheinhessen within GWC’s Education and Research Working Group, where his rigorous analysis of wine and wine tourism data made a significant contribution to knowledge sharing across the Network, building the annual GWC Members Data Report. A natural networker, recognised for his openness, enthusiasm and ability to connect people across countries and cultures, Otto became a familiar and much-appreciated figure within the GWC community.
