Environmental Excellence Awards from the South Australian Wine Industry Association (SAWIA) have been awarded to wineries including Henschke Cellars, Taylors Wines, Byrne Vineyards, Treasury Wine Estates, Yalumba Wine Company, Accolade Wines, Wirra Wirra Vineyards, Kay Brothers Amery Vineyards and Pernod Ricard Winemakers, and a certificate of merit has been provided to Cape Jaffa Wines. The showcased wineries demonstrated measurable improvements in energy and carbon, land and biodiversity, water, and waste and recycling, and the wineries have been recognised for going above and beyond the basics of environmental management.
The South Australian Government has worked with the majority of these wineries on resource efficiencies in energy, water and waste management, as well as on lean production tools and techniques, and has partnered with SAWIA to develop these videos showcasing their accomplishments. There are nine videos - one on each of the recipients from 2012-2015 - which can be found on the following website:
Minister for the Environment Ian Hunter says "Wineries underpin our State's international reputation as a producer of premium food and wine from a clean environment and play a large part in bringing tourists to our state - and those with an environmental edge can use that to their advantage to attract cellar door visitors.
"These videos will inspire other wineries to improve their environmental management practices - and this is certainly a reason for a celebration."
