Art and Culture
A marvel of baroque architecture, and classified as a national monument, Casa de Mateus is a time machine that allows us to travel over the past hundreds of years and follow much of the history of Portugal, Europe and the World. It converges and radiates people, ideas, stories, documents, artifacts, which all together constitute a unique heritage.
A tour of the House enables the visitor to view the original rooms and contents of the House as well as the Museum’s exhibition rooms. The Chapel, Winery and Gardens are included in the tour. It also offers a diverse cultural program, namely, international music meetings, seminars and conferences, concerts of ancient and baroque music.
Innovative Wine Tourism Experiences
The Wine House****Quinta da Pacheca is the project in which the protagonists are the vine and the wine. It is the result of the recovery of the old building and the courage to take chances with the new one.
In 2020, the expansion of the hotel was completed, having now 50 accommodation units. They now also offer an outdoor pool, a wine spa, an art studio, a new tasting room and the recent wine shop. A new dynamic has thus emerged in the wine tourism experience at Quinta da Pacheca.
Wine Tourism Restaurants
Surrounded by vineyards, the restaurant showcases the best of seasonal Douro produce, bringing together two celebrated names from Portuguese gastronomy and wine – the renowned fine wine and Port producers, Symington family, and the Michelin-starred Chef, Pedro Lemos.
The pop-up restaurant serves regional Douro dishes using locally-sourced produces and traditional techniques, including wood-fired cooking. The menu is matched with the Symington family’s exceptional portfolio of Douro wines and Ports.
Wine Tourism Restaurants
The restaurant has a fantastic location and a unique setting in Taylor's Port Wine cellars, with a magnificent view over the Douro River and the historic center of Porto. It offers a contemporary interpretation of traditional cuisine with an emphasis on the use of fresh local ingredients and authentic flavors, through the creativity of Chef Ricardo Cardoso and his experienced team.
The wine list offers a wide variety of references from the main Portuguese wine regions and, as you would expect, a broad choice of Port Wine. Its name comes from John Fladgate, the famous exporter of Port Wine and a partner of Taylor’s in the 19th century, who has been distinguished with the title of Baron for his innovative work in viticulture.
