The Vinhos Verdes region, celebrating its 106th anniversary on 18 September, expects a very favorable harvest in 2014.
To the oenologist António Cerdeira, “the climate conditions in August and September are, at this stage, determining factors to the distinctive profile of the Vinhos Verdes in 2014. We expect the harvest to start on mid-September, revealing a good balance between the aroma intensity, acidity and alcohol, being desirable that the final maturation period is slow and progressive, in order to get elegant wines.”
According to the Wine Commission of the Vinhos Verdes Region (CVRVV), “perspectives of a good harvest are fundamental as exports keep increasing, about 19% in volume and 15% in value, compared to the same period last year. The highlight goes to markets such as Germany, USA, France or Brazil, with export increasing between 10 and 40%”, says Manuel Pinheiro, President of CVRVV.
