Following the success of the first fair, which featured over 600 participants, the group of producers known as the Douro Boys (Quinta do Vallado, Quinta do Crasto, Niepoort, Quinta Vale D. Maria and Quinta do Vale Meão) have got back together again for an event designed to show off all the best the region has to offer. The 2016 Douro Fair will take place at the end of June and promises to reveal the region’s best kept secrets.
This year, the event will be hosted by Quinta de Nápoles (Niepoort) on 25 and 26 June. Besides tastings of traditional products and the wines of the respective brands of the Douro Boys, to the sound of DJ Cláudia Madur, the programme will include master classes and various workshops (these activities have an extra charge and are subject to places).
The home of high quality wines and a breathtaking landscape, every year the Douro receives thousands of tourists seeking its authenticity and age-old traditions. And even though the wine is the starting point for this discovery, new treasures are soon found in the region, a product of the versatility and richness of this terroir.
The delicious fruit and vegetables, tender meat, traditional and artisanal sausages and cheeses, regional desserts and bread baked in wood-fired ovens according to ancient recipes are a few of the secrets revealed by the Douro Boys group at the largest regional showcase in Portugal.
Cost of admission is €10 (per day) and includes a Riedel tasting glass and access to all the producers. To prolong the experience, the Douro Fair also includes a partnership with various hotels and restaurants in the region, all at special prices for participants. The event will take place no matter the weather.
