South Australian wineries recently won four gold medals at the Concours International des Cabernets, held in April 2016 in Paris, including World’s Best Cabernet from McLaren Vale’s Penny’s Hill winery.
Other gold medal winners included McLaren Vale's Shingleback and Fox Creek, and Clare Valley's Taylors.
The Concours International des Cabernets aims to showcase and award the best cabernets in the world.
“The trophy is proof of the excellent wine those grape varieties can produce,” says Tony Parkinson, owner, Penny’s Hill.
“For the producer it represents recognition for a vineyard and its savoir-faire in growing grapes and making wine, all of which put the producer at the top of this category.
“With over 210,000 hectares of Cabernet planted around the world we are thrilled that our two-hectares of Cabernet and our very dedicated and talented winemaker Alexia Roberts, have been recognised with this award in such esteemed company.
“We once again extend huge congratulations to Alexia and her team.”
