Porto has announced its Best of Wine Tourism 2020 winners, last June, during the closing dinner of the interim meeting of the Great Wine Capitals Global Network.

Earlier this month, Bordeaux celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Great Wine Capitals. It was quite the party, with 22 Best Of Wine winners just from Bordeaux. 

Wine tourism is a relatively recent activity for companies in the Rioja region, dating from the 1990s. Today however, more than one hundred wineries entertain tourists with an ever-increasing range of innovative activities.

Bodegas Valdemar in Oyón and  the Villa Lucía museum in Laguardia have worked together to raise the bar even higher by becoming the first wine-related businesses in Rioja to develop an extensive all-inclusive program allowing people with disabilities to learn about wine, its history, and the winemaking process without physical, visual or auditory limitations.

This effort recently earned them a 2020 International 'Best Of Wine Tourism' award.

Villa Quaranta Tommasi Wine Hotel & SPA, the historic residence of the Tommasi family, in the hearth of the Valpolicella Classica, is the Italian Global Winner of the Best Of Wine Tourism International Award 2020.

An international jury made up of Great Wine Capitals network members has awarded McLaren Vale’s Gemtree Wines with the Great Wine Capitals Best of Wine Tourism Award for Sustainable Wine Tourism Practices at the Great Wine Capitals Gala Dinner on 7 November.

As one of ten recognized Great Wine Capitals, San Francisco | Napa Valley awarded its hospitality leaders the 2020 Best Of Wine Tourism regional designations in seven categories. All regional “Best Of” award winners competed for the global award, which was judged by an international panel of respected wine tourism professionals and Louis M. Martini Winery was selected as the overall winner for the San Francisco | Napa Valley region. 

The international ‘Best Of Wine Tourism’ awards were announced during a gala dinner at the Palais de la Bourse on November 7, 2019. The ceremony marked the end of the 2019 Annual General Meeting of the Great Wine Capitals in Bordeaux, France as the Network celebrated its 20th Anniversary.

The Best Of Wine Tourism Award Winner of Mainz and Rheinhessen perfectly show what the wine region stands for:  Modern wine experience buildings emerge - historic ones are kissed out of their slumber.
