When you compare the evolution of digital wine commerce between 2013 and 2021 in Switzerland (source SWP-MIS Trend 2013-2021) you may realize an increase from 4% to 18%. There must be made a distinction between two main sales channels: online commerce of winery direct and online sales distributors.

More and more new online distributors come with very innovative ideas, so for example a tool called « Qwine » (a branch of qoqa.ch) offers regularly in limited quantity special bottles of wines at special prices, but only for 24 hours. Or another tool called Wiine (www.wiine.ch). With every box of wine you buy, you automatically take part in a lottery, the more you buy, the more you have a chance to win a box of wine.

Also, wine events in the past had to adapt due to health regulations : in 2020 the traditional open wine cellars had to be «digitalized» and people had to register online and book a free time slot for their tasting, possible for a group of four. A complete different organisation to the open door events people were used to.

Another digitalized interesting wine project in pipeline:
Swiss Wines started a project to equip wine bottles with a QR code and a holographic seal of quality. This should be added value for clients and winemakers.
The advantage for the consumer will be the added value thanks to the QR code with which he or she will be able to get more information about the wine and the winemaker.
At the same time, valuable demographic information and supply chain data can be obtained.

The current sanitary situation has lead to an increasing  importance of online channels in a very short time. Nevertheless
this cannot replace « real » winetasting and the pleasure of sharing these special moments with others.
