Cais da Villa Restaurant recently won the Best Wine Restaurant of Portugal award. It was presented by the Best Of Wine Tourism 2018 Awards, an event organized by the Great Wine Capitals Global Network.   I was very curious to discover the wonders that Chef Daniel Gomes and his team are producing.

The North of Portugal produces exceptional quality wines, worthy of a distinguished and diverse cuisine. If the wine from Porto is world famous, Vinho Verde and Douro DOC are the best kept secrets in the region. Have a taste of Douro muscatel and sparkling Távora-Varosa, as well.

Porto Calém Wine Cellars recently won the Best Innovative Wine Tourism Experience of Portugal award. It was presented by the Best Of Wine Tourism 2018 Awards, an event organized by the Great Wine Capitals Global Network. They were kind enough to fly me to Portugal in order to see the fancy new High Tech exhibition that has won them so many awards.

A small city built on wine traditions. Steep riverbanks, lined with vineyards.  Porto paired with nearby Douro is a wine-loving wanderer's match made in heaven that's still suprisingly undiscovered.

The 5th edition of Vinho Verde Wine Fest arrives at Alfândega do Porto, between July 12th and 15th, with more than 300 wines for tasting, guest chefs, narrated tastings, showcooking sessions, creative workshops for the little ones, in a four-day programme designed for the whole family.

If you are in the Douro region, everyone will talk about the great Douro wines (which they are!) and the wine tasting tours in wonderful vineyards (which is obviously a must-do!). But even if you are visiting Douro for the wine and the landscapes, there is one thing you need to know about Douro: Its food is as good as its wine and Douro is home to some of the best restaurants in Portugal.

Taking advantage of the holiday season, we decided to visit Ponte de Lima, to learn a little more about the Vinhos Verdes region, demarcated on 18 September 1908, which occupies the area known as Entre-Douro-e-Minho, the largest Portuguese demarcated region, in terms of surface area, and one of the largest in Europe. And there is no better place to learn about this region than the Centro de Interpretação e Promoção do Vinho Verde -CIPVV (Centre for Interpretation and Promotion of Vinho Verde).

This year CIPVV won the regional prize in the category of Art and Culture of the Best Of Wine Tourism awards from the Great Wine Capitals.

The Vinho Verde region presents a huge dynamism and creativity. This time we will present a group of young wine producers from this region who are part of a group called Vinho Verde Young Projects.

I needed a few days in a place where I could rest my ideas and recharge my batteries to their fullest, one of those times when I feel like being away from everything or as one of my family members would say, "who can discover us here." While searching for a place like that I came across with the wine tourism of Casa do Rio - Quinta do Vallado, which won the category of "Sustainable Wine Tourism Practices" in the Best of Wine Tourism Awards 2016 and more recently the Architecture and Landscape award at the Best of Wine Tourism Awards 2018. An offer so tempting, even more so, because it is connected to the world of wine, was the much-needed click.
