How Collaboration Shaped Wine Tourism in Valparaíso–Casablanca Valley

Valparaíso – Casablanca Valley has emerged as one of Chile’s leading wine tourism destinations through long-term public–private collaboration. Coordinated governance, shared vision and integrated cultural and wine experiences have positioned the valley on the international wine tourism map while preserving its local identity.

The evolution of Valparaiso – Casablanca Valley into one of Chile’s leading wine tourism destinations is the result of a long-term collaboration between public and private stakeholders. Rather than developing in isolation, the cities have followed a coordinated strategy that integrates wine, culture, promotion and territorial identity, positioning Casablanca on the international wine tourism map.

Municipal leadership has been central to destination management. The Municipality of Casablanca has strengthened the local tourism ecosystem through investments in infrastructure, visitor services and coordinated destination management, ensuring tourism development aligns with local identity and quality standards. At a regional level, the Municipality of Valparaíso has integrated Casablanca into broader tourism strategies, positioning the valley as a complementary inland wine destination. This territorial approach has expanded market reach, improved connectivity between destinations and encouraged longer visitor stays across the region.

A central pillar of this has been the Casablanca Valley Winegrowers Association, which has fostered collaboration between wineries and municipalities to build a shared tourism vision. Through coordinated harvest celebrations, wine experiences, cultural events and collective promotion, the Association has helped articulate a coherent destination narrative. This collaborative model allows visitors to experience the valley as an integrated whole rather than a collection of individual wineries.

Together, these efforts reflect best practices in destination management, where governance, collaboration and experience design converge to articulate cultural programming, wine tourism offerings and coordinated promotion. As a result, Valparaíso – Casablanca Valley stands as an internationally projected wine tourism destination, balancing global standards with local identity and positioning wine as a gateway to culture, landscape and community.
