A perfect pairing for South Australia’s Bottle Shock

An innovative South Australian wine business is injecting friendly competition into wine tasting, to rave reviews.

Some things in life are simply destined for a successful pairing, like a juicy steak and full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon or a fresh seafood platter matched with a fine, young Riesling.

But every so often, it’s a lesser known yet bold combination that captures the imagination – and a prestigious award.

For Bottle Shock, located in Gumeracha in the Adelaide Hills wine region, winning the Great Wine Capital’s 2026 Best Of Wine Tourism Award for Innovative Wine Tourism Experiences for South Australia has been a coup.

“Who knew pairing Bottle Shock TV, our YouTube channel, with an in-person experiential venue would be such a hit?” muses Simon Dacey, sommelier.

Guests who have visited Bottle Shock’s in-person offering since it launched in 2025 in the Great Wine Capital of Adelaide, South Australia know Simon well.

He curates and presents the in-venue Bottle Shock experience alongside lively cameos from the trio most widely associated with the brand’s global presence, YouTube presenters Noah Ward, Brendan Carter, and Henry Doyle.

The physical venue, an easy 50 minutes’ drive from Adelaide city, is giving their fanbase, and first-time friends, the chance to live out Bottle Shock’s uniquely Aussie approach to breaking down barriers to the wine industry.

In fact, in the 12 months since opening, more than 10,000 people have ventured to the venue to experience firsthand the thrill of competitive blind wine tasting made famous by Bottle Shock TV online.

Perfect pairing - Adelaide Hills

The interactive experience is complemented by one of Australia’s largest by-the-glass lists featuring over 150 wines under Coravin, opening up visitors to the real possibility of mistaking a great-value wine for something much more expensive.

Since winning the award, the growth of in-venue visitor numbers are testament to what the judges saw in Bottle Shock’s lively, out-of-the-box offering: “Bottle Shock was recognised for their passionate leadership and dedication to continual innovation, reflected through the evolution of their impressive digital presence into an inviting physical space that draws people in by making wine tasting inclusive and fun.”

Like everything Bottle Shock does, being named the 2026 Best Of Wine Tourism Award winner for Innovative Wine Tourism Experiences for South Australia by Great Wine Capitals is yet another reason to strive boldly into the future.

“As a brand-new venue and concept for the Adelaide Hills, being recognised by Great Wine Capitals has been undeniably positive for us,” says Simon.

“From the early press releases and repeat articles to the plaque that adorns our door and the trophies on our shelves, it is a clear advertisement and affirmation of the quality of our offering, and a reassuring recognition for guests that they are in capable hands when they join us.”
