La Cave de Genève

La Cave de Genève, a key player in the Swiss wine scene, has been organising various wine tourism activities for several years. We started with the harvest activity and, following interest from participants, we created the pruning and defoliation of the vine experiences.

The pandemic has allowed us to develop and test several activities linked to the world of wine. The one that met with the greatest success is the Escape Game in the heart of the vineyard.

Who we are

Created in September 1994, La Cave de Genève combines its wines with local culture, as expressed through its slogan «Land of Cultures». Through each of our wine ranges, the entirety of the past and present history of Geneva is revealed.

Fertile and eventful, the history of La Cave de Genève dates back to the end of World War One. In 1929, several winegrowers from the Arve et Lac region decided to create a cooperative named La Cave de La Souche which brought together around fifty members. The members of this cooperative also founded the first Swiss Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée for wines.

In 1948, Vin Union was founded and took charge of all oenological, packaging and marketing operations. After changing its name several times while retaining the generic expression «La Cave», the company sold nearly 80% of Geneva’s wine production in the 1970s.

Today La Cave de Genève counts 60 winegrower families and covers a surface of 270 hectares. The main area of activity is the processing of grapes into wine and its marketing.

Established in 2007 in Satigny, La Cave de Genève SA invites you to its shop all year round to discover and taste quality wines from a generous land cultivated by talented and passionate winegrowers.

ESCAPE GAME : IN SEARCH OF THE GOLDEN VENDANGETTE

Vendangette : the tool used by the winegrowers to harvest the grapes by hand.

The Escape Game is an activity that we have offered for two years as part of our wine tourism selection. This year it will focus on the search for the golden . The participants will enjoy a unique experience in the heart of the vineyards.

« After more than 50 years of friendship and bickering between two winemakers, the elder challenges the younger to find the golden vendangette, which is so dear to him and which his father had entrusted to him before his death. Immersed in the heart of the world of wine, you will have to help Bernard find it, meet Jacques’s challenge, and save the heritage of one of our winemakers. Reflection and a sense of direction will be required to succeed in your mission. »

But after the effort will come the reward: an aperitif (comprised of platters of cold cuts and cheese prepared by the Domaine des Vignolles, which selects quality products from Geneva) with a tasting of six wines and grape juices will be served in the heart of the vineyard to provide an authentic experience.

The aim is to:

  • Entertain the population (children and adults)
  • Introduce the locals to La Cave de Genève and the Geneva vineyards
  • Gamify the world of wine
  • Unique experience in the vineyards
  • Sell wine

Every six months, La Cave de Genève welcomes two new sales and events intern from the Ecole Hôtelière de Genève. They take charge of this activity. The students are responsible for creating the activity by planning the positions and drawing up the guiding thread of the story. They then organise all the necessary material and ensure that the Escape Game is complete. Finally, they take care of the reservations and are the first contact for customers, providing them with a unique experience in the vineyards.

The Ecole Hôtelière intern is responsible for:

  • Creating the concept of the game with the posts and puzzles
  • Preparing the material for the different stages
  • Informing customers
  • Managing bookings
  • Ordering the local aperitif
  • Installing the stations in the vineyards
  • Accompanying groups to help them and animate the game
  • Commenting on the tasting at the end of the game

The Escape Game in the heart of the vineyard is a very successful activity; more than 200 participants took part in summer 2020, 250 in 2021 and 320 in 2022.
