Domaine Bousquet

Mendoza | Argentina

The Bousquet family hails from the city of Carcassonne, in the South of France and has 4 generations of history in the winemaking tradition. Our passion is to produce wines of superior quality and this is what leads us to Argentina to begin a new chapter in the tradition of our wine making.

In 1997, a parcel of land was purchased and we relocated from France to the foothills of the Andes. The 110 hectares parcel is located in the Gualtallary valley in Tupungato, Mendoza at an altitude of 1200 meters (4,000 feet), making it one of the higher altitude vineyards in Mendoza and the world. With cool nights and a near constant breeze, the vineyard is located in a region with the idyllic conditions to produce ripe grapes and extraordinary wines.

The aim of the Bousquet family was to unite our tradition of European wine making with the ideal agricultural conditions in Mendoza. The results of this union are extraordinary wines that boast incredible color, delicious fruity character, good structure with ripe tannins and perfect acid balance.

THE VINEYARD

The estate consists of 240 hectares in Tupungato, Uco Valley (Mendoza). The area has idyllic wine-growing conditions. The vineyard is situated on the foothills of the Andes at an altitude of 1200 meters/4000 feet above sea level which is among some of the highest worldwide and within the Mendoza region. Due to its location, Domaine Bousquet’s vineyard benefits from a cool climate and constant fresh air.

VINES

The vineyard was virgin and was planted by Jean Bousquet after its purchase in 1997. Once the vines reach their optimum ripeness, the grapes are picked by hand and gathered in small trays.

All these great attributes give the grapes the possibility to attain an optimum maturation without having to use pesticides or any other chemical products, hence allowing Domaine Bousquet to produce high quality and healthy organically grown grapes which are then transformed to high quality organic wines.

We are dedicated to farming organically while improving our land’s biodiversity. We believe that the healthier the vineyard, the better the fruit and of course the wine. In other words, by nourishing the land and treating it with respect, we know that the land will give us back its finest fruits.

Organically grown vine roots penetrate deep into the soil where they absorb the trace minerals that help to give our wines their authentic regional taste. For this reason, organically grown grapes can express the purity, intensity and varietal character of the local terroir. They also offer a quality of fruit and vibrancy of taste that is unparalleled in the world of ordinary wines.

Our organic vines tend to produce lower yields with greater concentration of flavor (unlike chemically fed grapes), which allows their unique flavors to shine through. They are grown in harmony with nature without using any chemicals such as pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers. Organic agriculture uses natural fertilizers such as compost and helps us to protect and sustain the land and the environment for future generations.
