Bilbao-Rioja Calls for Applications for the 2027 Best Of Wine Tourism Awards

Applications are open for the 2027 Best Of Wine Tourism Awards in Bilbao-Rioja until June 15, 2026. The competition recognizes excellence across seven categories, rewarding innovative and sustainable projects that elevate wine tourism in DOCa Rioja and connect local winners to the global stage.

The Bilbao-Rioja Committee has opened the application process for candidates vying for the 2027 Best Of Wine Tourism Awards.  Applications will be accepted until June 15, 2026.

The Best Of Wine Tourism awards reward excellent wine tourism practices in companies in the provinces of Álava, Bizkaia and La Rioja in the following categories:

  • Accommodation
  • Gastronomic Experiences
  • Architecture, Parks and Gardens
  • Art and Culture
  • Innovative Wine Tourism Experiences
  • Wine Tourism Services
  • Sustainable Wine Tourism Practices

A professional jury made up of wine tourism experts and specialized media evaluates the best candidates and awards the outstanding projects that promote wine tourism in the DOCa Rioja in an original, effective and innovative way.

The 2026 award winners from Bilbao-Rioja were Bodegas Faustino (also awarded the 2026 International Best Of trophy); Hotel Viura, Palacios Vinos de Finca-Nivarius-Proelio, Hospedería Los Parajes, Brittany Ferries, Bodegas Ramón Bilbao, and Restaurante Las Lías de Bilbao. The first six of these winners also received six out of the seven international People’s Choice Awards.

The Best Of Wine Tourism Awards were created in 2003 as an initiative of the Great Wine Capitals Global Network.  The network unites eleven excellent regions associated with world-famous wine regions:  Adelaide (South Australia), Bilbao-Rioja (Spain), Bordeaux (France), Lausanne (Switzerland), Hawke’s Bay (New Zealand), Mainz-Rheinhessen (Germany), Mendoza (Argentina), Porto (Portugal, San Francisco-Napa Velley (United States, Valparaíso-Valle de Casablanca (Chile and Verona (Italy).  

The winners of each of the national awards will compete for the prestigious International Best Of Wine Tourism awards, to be announced during the Annual Conference of the Network in Hawke’s Bay (New Zealand) from October 18 through 22.
