The distinction is particularly significant as it marks the first time an Argentine wine has received the IWC Champion Red Wine title, ending a run of French winners and reinforcing Mendoza’s position among the world’s leading wine regions. The winning Malbec originates from La Isabel Estate, Huentala Wines’ vineyard in Gualtallary, located more than 1,400 metres above sea level. The site’s limestone-rich soils, mountain climate and meticulous parcel-by-parcel vinification were key factors in creating a wine that impressed international judges with its concentration, elegance, freshness and mineral character.
To celebrate the achievement, Huentala Wines hosted a cocktail reception on Thursday, September 17, at the Hualta Winery Hotel in Mendoza. The gathering brought together members of the wine, tourism and business communities and was attended by Alfredo Cornejo, Governor of Mendoza, highlighting the importance of this international recognition for both the winery and the province’s wine industry.
The award further strengthens Mendoza’s reputation as one of the world’s premier wine destinations and underscores the international acclaim being achieved by its wineries, vineyards and wine tourism experiences.
