Wine industry bursary winners share insights

About 50 representatives from the South Australian wine industry got together to listen to ideas gathered from around the world for growth and innovation in South Australian wine research, viticulture, wine production and wine tourism.

The insights were presented by the 10 recipients of the 2024-25 Great Wine Capitals Outbound Knowledge Exchange bursaries, who travelled to Great Wine Capitals around the world to exchange expertise. During their travels, bursary recipients met with key industry, regional and education stakeholders to share their experience, expertise, and energy, as well as learn about practices and operations in their chosen field.

The presenters pitched ideas as diverse as water sustainability, creating demand for premium wine, mapping grapevine genetics, and NOLO innovations, to sheep grazing in vineyards, sparkling wine, luxury experiences, drought resilience, sustainable wine tourism, and regional collaboration. Their insights were welcomed by their South Australian wine industry peers, and sparked vibrant discussion about new opportunities and connections.

Each person has written a blog and delivered a presentation capturing their experience, and their ideas for the South Australian wine industry. The recordings of their presentations, as well as blogs that capture their experience exploring other Great Wine Capitals, are publicly available to maximise the benefit to the broader South Australian wine industry – and the global wine industry for that matter.

Thanks go to sponsors the South Australian Department of Primary Industries and Regions, Wine Australia, and Wine Grape Council of South Australia for enabling the Adelaide, South Australia Great Wine Capitals Steering Committee – a partnership between the Government of South Australia, the South Australian Wine Industry Association and the University of Adelaide – to provide so many bursaries to talented individuals.
