Located in the historic village of Provesende, in the heart of the Douro Valley, Casa do Santo Wine & Tourism was named Best Of Wine Tourism Award 2026 Winner in the Architecture & Landscape category — a recognition that perfectly reflects its philosophy.
The project was born from the careful restoration of the estate’s former caretaker’s house and a 300-year-old wine cellar, preserving original features and respecting the rural identity of the property. The tourism house shares the estate with an 18th-century manor, a symbol of the family’s heritage and the region’s long-standing winemaking tradition. Together, these buildings create a seamless dialogue between history and contemporary hospitality.

With just seven rooms, Casa do Santo offers an intimate and personalised stay, surrounded by the UNESCO-listed Douro landscape. Sweeping views over terraced vineyards and the valley define the experience, inviting guests to slow down and connect with the cultural richness of the region. Wine tastings and immersive storytelling take place in the manor house, while vineyard walks, picnics and moments by the pool complete a stay deeply rooted in place.
By combining architectural preservation with the celebration of the Douro’s extraordinary landscape, Casa do Santo delivers an authentic wine tourism experience where heritage and scenery become one.

The Best Of Wine Tourism recognition in Architecture & Landscape reflects the essence of Casa do Santo’s vision: safeguarding built heritage while celebrating the grandeur of the surrounding wine landscape. The project demonstrates that architectural preservation and wine tourism development are not opposing forces — they are mutually reinforcing when guided by respect for place. At Casa do Santo, architecture is not simply restored; it is reactivated. The landscape is not only admired; it is lived. Together, they offer an authentic and immersive encounter with the Douro — one that honors the past while welcoming a new generation of wine travelers.
