(Porto, November 7, 2016) – The Great Wine Capitals Global Network announced yesterday that it has accepted Verona’s application to join the Network, joining Adelaide | South Australia, Bilbao | Rioja, Bordeaux, Cape Town | Cape Winelands, Mainz | Rheinhessen, Mendoza, Porto, San Francisco | Napa Valley and Valparaiso | Casablanca Valley.

The Yeatman

The Yeatman is a luxury wine hotel and spa and offers the best of Portugal: from gastronomy and wine to the art of good hospitality. It is a member of the highly respected chain Relais & Châteaux, with 82 bedrooms and suites, a premium restaurant with one Michelin star led by Chef Ricardo Costa, the largest collection of Portuguese wines in the world, a Vinothérapie® Spa by Caudalie and 11 meetings and events rooms.

It is set within 7 acres of land and gardens in the historic Port wine lodge district with stunning panoramic views over Porto and the river Douro.

Despite the extremely challenging context, Porto was able to once again carry out this annual contest, endorsed by the Great Wine Capitals Global Network, a prestigious competition that recognizes wine tourism services for their excellence.

Quinta do Vallado

Since 2005, Quinta do Vallado has been receiving guests at the famous Wine Hotel. Guests are presented with the opportunity to stay in the Manor House, once owned by Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, built in 1734 and recently remodeled. In addition, a new building was completed in 2012. This new wing, built mainly in shale, the predominant material in the region's soil, was designed by Architect Francisco Vieira de Campos. As a whole, Quinta do Vallado offers 13 rooms, 5 in the manor house and 8 in the Modern Wing.

Restaurant Barão Fladgate

The restaurant has a fantastic location and a unique setting in Taylor's Port Wine cellars, with a magnificent view over the Douro River and the historic center of Porto. It offers a contemporary interpretation of traditional cuisine with an emphasis on the use of fresh local ingredients and authentic flavors, through the creativity of Chef Ricardo Cardoso and his experienced team.

Casa dos Ecos, by Pedro Lemos

The pop-up at Casa dos Ecos (Echo House) showcases the best of seasonal Douro produce, bringing together two celebrated names from Portuguese gastronomy and wine – renowned fine wine and Port producers, the Symington family, and Michelin-starred chef, Pedro Lemos.

Pedro Lemos is using locally-sourced produce for a constantly changing menu over the course of four months – from summer to autumn, including the busy harvest period. The pop-up serves regional Douro dishes using traditional techniques, including wood-fired cooking.

The Wine House Hotel ****Quinta da Pacheca

With almost three centuries of existence, Quinta da Pacheca is one of the best known properties in the Douro.

The Wine House****Quinta da Pacheca is the project in which the protagonists are the vine and the wine, the result of the recovery of the old building and the courage to take chances with the new one.

In 2020, the expansion works of the hotel were completed, having now 50 accommodation units, an outdoor pool, spa, art studio, a new tasting room and the recent wine shop. A new dynamic has thus emerged in the wine tourism experience at Quinta da Pacheca.

Monverde Wine Experience Hotel

This wine hotel, on the Vinho Verde Route, is part of a 30 ha estate of vineyards, currently offering 46 accommodation units.
