Wine wanderings in South Australian wine regions

South Australia’s 18 distinct wine regions stretch from white sand beaches to the west and the cool, rolling hills to the east, and each offer something to tempt wine-loving walkers. Whether solo or with your furry friend, whether short and sweet or a multi-day hike, we have something for everyone.

Dog-friendly

The inaugural Woof + Wine Walk in South Australia’s Coonawarra wine region is a unique and fun way to explore the home of the world-famous terra rossa soil, with your four-legged friend by your side. The event is pitched as a ‘PAWfect’ way to experience six cellar doors in a day, with the dog-loving owners getting to taste excellent wines, while their dog companions receive a special welcome gift and free cuddles.

Nice and flat

The 8 kilometre long Shiraz Trail in McLaren Vale winds from McLaren Vale town to charming Willunga. The track is flat, perfect for a leisurely stroll as you make your way from cellar door to cellar door, stopping off for a wine tasting or lunch wherever you choose. This is a family-friendly walking option – or you can hire bikes or an e-bike if you prefer. The trail is wide enough to share!

Looooooong

For the more adventurous wine lovers among us, there is the 100 kilometre, six-stage hiking trail – the Clare Valley Wine and Wilderness Trail in the Clare Valley. Yes, you may need to cross fences or flowing creeks, and navigate some uneven surfaces, but you will be rewarded with 20 cellar doors, seven restaurants and four pubs along the way.

Enjoy our wines, protect our vines

We have some of the oldest vines in the world, thanks to rigorous biosecurity measures, which have kept the state free from the vine-ravaging pest phylloxera. We are serious about protecting these precious vines. Your shoes and clothing can spread pests and diseases. Help protect the vines that make our special wines. So please stay on the track and don’t walk amongst our vines.
