Destination Mont d’Or

Founded in 1848, the Domaine du Mont d'Or is emblematic of steep-slope winegrowing in the canton of Valais. Situated in an exceptional site of national importance, it is remarkable for its wealth of flora and fauna.

Its 220 terraces, 15 kilometres of dry-stone walls and famous little yellow winegrowers’ houses make it a unique site. Renowned for the quality of its late harvest wines and for several years now for its dry wines, Domaine du Mont d’Or offers its customers a wide range of top-of-the-range wines representing the best specialities of the Valais.

The Domaine is a true wine tourism destination. Various activities enable the public to discover this heritage in a fun, informative, cultural and tasty way. The use of modern technologies supports the
development of our projects.

Open-air Escape Game
This activity is a first in Switzerland, combining adventure and a real outdoor escape game.

We offer groups of 9 to 21 people the chance to set off in search of the first gold medal, won for Johannisberg Mont d’Or in 1878 at the Universal and International Exhibition of Works of Art and
Agricultural Products in Paris by Georges Masson, son of the estate’s founder.

This fun team-building activity allows you to discover the estate and its historic cellars. The activity can be completed by tasting the Estate’s wines in the heart of the historic cellars.

Discover the Estate with our application
Our app and the educational trail allow visitors to discover the riches of the Domaine.

With the help of the app, walkers can discover the products of the Domaine du Mont d’Or, its history and its natural, geological and archaeological treasures. A double loop that can be completed in one
hour takes visitors from the historic cellars to the Montorge irrigation channel. Geolocation information is provided along the way.

Mont d’Or artists’ residency
Since September 2020, the Manoir du Mont d’Or has been home to an artists’ residency. Based at the Domaine du Mont d’Or, the ‘’Art Valais’’ association is developing an original contemporary urban art project covering the whole canton of Valais.

From Obergoms to St-Gingolph, more than 50 French- and German-speaking communes in the Valais are participating in the creation of this open-air museum.

Renowned Swiss and international artists will be in residence at the Mont d’Or manor house, where they will be invited to create unique works that reflect the local heritage and environment through their artistic universe.

Geocaching
Geocaching enthusiasts can discover the estate through a multi-cache adventure.

This treasure hunt will take participants from the Caveau du Mont d’Or to the giant vine, passing through several of our little yellow winegrowers’ houses.

Aimed at families, this activity is a fun and instructive way to discover the estate.

Wine tastings in the heart of our historic cellars
Discovering our historic cellars, renovated and upgraded in 2017, is a unique experience. Carved out of the sandstone calcschist rock in 1848, these cellars are an exceptional heritage site.

Since the very beginning, the same methods have been used on the estate to vinify our wines in big wooden casks.

It is in keeping with the tradition and spirit of the founders that we aim to offer a unique experience to each and every one of our visitors.

After a tour of the estate and its historic cellars, we offer several tasting options. There is one that combines 5 wines with 5 appetisers selected for each wine tasted.
