The new umbrella body for the South African wine and brandy industry, SA Wine, has had its inaugural Board meeting and announced its new CEO. This ushers in a new era for the South African wine industry where the amendment in industry support structures will bring about much-needed improved collaboration and therefore added impact, as well as a more aligned and focused approach which will make this industry more resilient, profitable, and sustainable.
Wine Varieties found at the tip of Africa
The wine industry in South Africa is undergoing an exciting period of change, both in the vineyard and in the winery. Winemakers are experimenting with new varieties of vine, as well as new clones of existing varietals such as Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Large-scale experimentation with rootstocks is taking place to establish which planting material is particularly suited to conditions at the Cape, co-ordinated by the Vine Improvement Board.
