Bilbao, the most important city in northern Spain, is located on the coast of the Bay of Biscay.

It was originally a seaport and in the 15th and 16th centuries became a center of commerce between Spain, Europe and America. Today, over 1.1 million inhabitants live in Bilbao and its metropolitan area.
